What is Option 66? Option 66 is a feature available in most commercial grade routers which enables offering a 'provisioning server address' to any device on the same LAN and obtaining an IP via DHCP. This method of "broadcasting" the server address to multiple IP phones during the network boot up, versus configuring each one individually, significantly reduces the time and labor needed for most multi device installations.
Enabling Option 66 on a Mikrotik. *Router must be acting as a DHCP server.
Now when you plugin an IP device on the same network (LAN) as the Mikrotik, and it obtains an IP via DHCP, the router will redirect the phone to the provisioning server to check for new or updated configuration files. | |
