Yealink - Multicast Paging (Group Paging)
Posted by , Last modified by Daniel Diaz on 28 April 2021 10:47 AM

The multicast paging feature allows the IP phones to send/receive Real-time Transport

Protocol (RTP) stream to/from the pre-configured multicast address(es) without involving

SIP signaling. You can specify up to 10 listening multicast addresses on IP phones.

For the phones to be able to send and receive multicast paging we need to do the following:

  • Send Multicast - We will add a Button to send a page.
  • Select a Codec - We will use the default Codec G722.
  • Receive Multicast - Add the listening address to receive a page.

Please note that this article was written for a Yealink T22P. Not all Yealink support this feature.

Adding a Paging Button (DSS Key)

To configure a multicast paging key (This is to SEND the page) via web user interface:

  1. Click on the Phone tab.
  2. Select DSS Key.
  3. In the desired DSS Key or Line Key select "Multicast Paging" from the Type dropdown menu.
  4. Enter the multicast IP address and port number in the "Value" field.
  5. Click "Confirm" to accept the changes.

The valid multicast IP addresses range from 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 and a port number.

For this example we will be using 239.255.255.255:1008 as the value (#4).

Codec for Multicast Paging

To Configure a codec for multicast paging via web user interface:

  1. Click on the Phone tab.
  2. Go to Features.
  3. Select the desired Codec from the Multicast Codec dropdown menu (keep the default G722).
  4. Click "Confirm" to accept the changes.

Receive the Multicast Page

In order to receive the multicast page, the following must be done.

  1. Click on the Contacts tab.
  2. Go to MulticastIP
  3. Enter the listening multicast address and port number in the Listening Address field.
  4. Enter the label in the Label field. **The label will appear on the LCD screen when receiving the RTP multicast
  5. Click "Confirm" to accept the changes.

For this example we will be using 239.255.255.255:1008 as the listening address - #3 (The same address used to send multicast paging).

Configure this setting on all the phones you will be paging.  You will then be able to page multiple phones from the phone you configured to page using the line key or DSS Key.
